For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

Adding meaning and interest to your life is surely one of the most important things that you can do for yourself. And it isn’t all that difficult either.

If you’re feeling dull and stale, an absorbing new hobby can be just the thing to bring new light into your life.

My own way of adding that spark of interest involves handwriting analysis – which is a not only a fascinating interest but also an amazing learning experience.

It also makes a wonderful hobby. You can collect the handwriting samples of the rich and famous, of historical characters or of your own ancestors. From their handwritings alone you’ll be able to discover so much about their personalities that it will amaze you.

We’ve all come across people who hide behind a facade of pretense and whose real personalities are completely camouflaged. With handwriting analysis you can remove the mask in minutes.

When you study someone’s handwriting you are not only looking at the written page. You are delving into a real live person’s feelings, motives and behaviour. So it really demands empathy and a sensitive approach.

It helps you to see the people you thought you knew in a completely different light. Family members, friends and even business competitors are easier to understand. What a win!

Of course, not to be overlooked is the actual learning experience itself. The subject matter is totally fascinating. You can examine the handwritings of people from presidents, royalty and modern day celebrities to Einstein or Chopin and even serial killers such as Jack the Ripper and Jeffrey Dahmer.

No wonder so many people get hooked on the study! It gives you a whole new way of looking at things. It will make you wonder why you never tried it before!

We’ve all come across people who hide behind a facade of pretense and whose real personalities are completely camouflaged. With handwriting analysis you can remove the mask in minutes.

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

Do you wish you had pretty handwriting?

Or let me phrase it another way – do you wish you could change your handwriting to make it more beautiful?

So many people admire good penmanship. The type of handwriting that looks artistically designed with pretty little scrolls and curlicues. Anyone with a pretty or decorative handwriting is much admired – even envied.

Then there are those less fortunate individuals with really ugly handwritings. We’ve heard such handwriting described as “chicken scratchings” or worse.

Anyway, I think it’s time to dispel one of the many myths about pretty handwriting.

The fact is that pretty handwriting isn’t the most desirable type of writing to aspire to. And I’ll tell you why.

Graphologically speaking, a handwriting that is pretty and decorative and not much more reveals very little individuality or depth of personality.

Any writer who concentrates on the appearance and style of the writing is more focussed on the decorative aspect rather than on the desire to communicate meaningful information.

Here is an example of pretty handwriting:

This writer is more concerned with appearances than with any serious intent. The focus is on form rather than on function – on decoration rather than intent.

Of course there is nothing wrong with that.

But take a look at this handwriting:

It may not be decorative but it shows individuality, strength and character.

Do you know whose handwriting that is? None other than the great psychoanalyst Freud himself. You can read more about his handwriting at Freud and Jung

So where do you fit in? Maybe in-between or somewhere completely off the chart!

It doesn’t really matter. I have just tried to show that pretty handwriting is not the be all and end all of style and desirability.

So if your handwriting is less than pretty – relax. It may just show a bit of individuality!

And by the way, if you are interested in a seeing a light-hearted approach to graphology with lots of handwriting fun for beginners go to Graphology-World.

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

Signatures are not always the best indicators of personality. They tend to hide rather than reveal information. But Michael Jackson’s signature in its simplicity reveals a lot about him.

It epitomizes the dichotomy in his personality and reveals his inner conflict.

It shows his removal from reality, his insecurity, and his need to be the embodiment of the heroic life he so admired.

Signatures change.

Signatures grow and develop with the changes in our personalities – and this is particularly true in the case of Michael Jackson.

If you take a look at one of his earlier signatures you will see how it started off as being rather simple and practical.

The words are legible and easy to read. Each letter is easily identifiable.

But the following signature is very different and shows a big personality change. Notice how angular it is in comparison with the earlier signature.

Over time Michael Jackson’s signature changed considerably and became a far more delicate, fragile and ethereal expression of his personality.

A very Different Signature

The most striking thing about it is the huge discrepancy between the body of the signature and the soaring upper zone that seemed to touch the stratosphere of his ambitions.

And then note how it plummets from great heights into great depths as well. Depression and euphoria were never far away.

His tragedy was that his real life and his fantasy life could never come together. They were poles apart.

The tiny body of the signature reflects his dissatisfaction with his ordinary, earth-bound self while the soaring upper zone reflects his boundless aspirations. It was all about the things he wanted to do, the things that he still hoped to achieve.

But his aspirations were so high that they caused him to lose touch with reality and inhabit more and more a strange world of fantasy. He poured his whole being into this world of fantasy until it became his reality.

And then look at that great circle which takes centre stage in his signature – the symbolic expression of his attitude to the importance of dance. It’s as if he feels that music and dance can bring it all together.

But Michael Jackson’s amazing success was not only due to his musical and dancing talent. It was a personality thing as well.

His remarkable versatility, his physical, mental and emotional agility, his soaring aspirations and his driving ambition allowed him to become the legend that he was.

A Romantic Vision

We know how this translated into the facts of his life. How he wore outrageous uniforms and changed his physical appearance to fit in with his romantic vision of himself. How his ranch became the embodiment of the life-style he desired and how he named it Neverland after Peter Pan’s fictional home – Never Never Land.

It was the embodiment of his dreams – a place where no-one could grow old and where dreams could blend with reality.

Michael Jackson had never been happy with what he was born to. So he crafted and honed his appearance, his personality and his whole being in order to become the romantic hero he so aspired to being.

He envisioned himself as a heroic figure like the ones in fairy tales where knights and princes wore wondrous outfits and performed fantastic deeds. He saw himself in the role of a dashing romantic hero who would not use a sword but would use his talents to turn his dreams into reality for his millions of fans.

It’s all in the Signature

All this can be seen in his signature which is the embodiment of his ambitions, his desires – and also his fears. His unusual signature reveals it all.

How to find the mark of genius if indeed there was one?

Craft and Create - The Creative Route to Personal Development

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

It’s no secret that handwriting analysis is one of my “Creative Interests!” Writing is another.

Long ago I decided that writing and handwriting analysis went together like the proverbial horse and carriage.

In fact, because handwriting is so personal and so in touch with the human psyche, I thought it would be the ideal subject for my genius project.

Not only that- it’s the perfect medium for linking up with the minds of all kinds of people – even those who lived many centuries ago.

Great! I began by selecting 30 famous geniuses throughout the ages. That was the easy part.

Finding the Handwriting Samples

Finding the handwriting samples was another story. That was much more difficult and took a lot of sleuth work!

But even more difficult was getting permission to use the samples I did find.

I contacted libraries, universities and individuals all over the world. Most of them were charming and helpful – and even interested in my project.

An Irritable Librarian

But there was one irritable university librarian (who shall remain nameless) who wrote back laconically, “you may NOT use the handwriting” (of Niels Bohr I think it was). And with that another genius’s handwriting hit the dust in my rapidly filling trash basket!

But once I had my brilliant 30 neatly tucked into a genius folder, what a revelation it was! The handwritings were all so completely different and individualistic. How to find the mark of genius if indeed there was one?

I began to realize that the signs of genius were not so easy to isolate, after all. Besides, there are so many types of genius to consider.

Walt Disney

For example, Walt Disney was no intellectual from what I could see. To start with, he made atrocious spelling mistakes. And yet he had the most amazing imagination and talent.

His handwriting sample is the most challenging that I have ever come across. I mulled over it for days.

And then of course, Einstein wrote so simply and modestly. Where was the genius there?

Picasso’s Handwriting

Picasso’s handwriting was also a challenge. He formed his letters as he wielded his paintbrush – with a confident type of macho independence that seemed to reject every vestige of conventionality. Wild and angry it is filled with an aggressive, ground-breaking creativity.

I could go on and on about these geniuses and their handwritings – but of course, thereby hangs the tale. An exciting one I found, because it taught me so much.

But that, in short, is how “The Mark of Genius“ came about.

Wild and angry it is filled with an aggressive, ground-breaking creativity.

An exciting one I found, because it taught me so much.

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

When I first decided to write “The Mark of Genius,” I began to wonder about the origin of the word “Genius” so I looked it up in my trusty little Latin-English dictionary.

I discovered that it came mainly from the Latin verb with its various parts; gigno, gignere, genui, genitum – to beget, bring forth or to cause.

How unhelpful, I thought!

What a tenuous connection to genius. And what possible link could it have with “begetting”?

And then the penny dropped. Of course! The most important thing a genius could do was to bring forth a new idea or give birth to a new creation.

A genius would undoubtedly “beget” some new scientific discovery; produce a great work of art; or start a new social movement.

Now obviously, this advanced type of begetting is not in everyone’s daily to-do list. It requires a person of special skill and ability – the ability of a genius.

It was an “aha” moment!

And that is how my book “The Mark of Genius” was begot or Begotten!

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

The Rorschach test named after its founder Hermann Rorschach uses a picture of a large ink blot or splash of ink on a white piece of paper. The shape of the blot is supposed to remain a secret so that people taking the test can’t discuss it or know about it beforehand. Anyone who takes this test is supposed to tell the tester whatever comes to mind as he looks at the blot.

Inkblots and Teddy Bears

For example one person looking at the ink blot could see a teddy bear while another could see a knight in armour drawing a sword. From this the tester or psychologist is supposed to be able to deduce something about how that person’s mind works. He will presumably see in the picture something that is related to what is uppermost in his mind. It’s all about the mental pictures you create when you gaze at the ink blot.

The Shapes of Clouds

Now there are all sorts of rules involved and a lot of secrecy too but I still think it’s something like lying on your back on a sunny afternoon watching a few clouds go by. The shapes of the clouds remind you of different things. And most people see different pictures even while watching the same clouds.

Whether this reveals anything about your personality or not is debatable. But those who believe in the Rorschach test seem to feel that the psychologists who administer these tests are able to find out some of your innermost secrets from what you say about the blot.

Now that’s all very well. But remember that the inkblot has not been drawn by the person taking the test. He is only trying to describe the picture created in his mind by looking at that ready made, secret blot.

Handwriting as a Test of Personality

To my mind, handwriting is a far more accurate test of personality. Your handwriting is something to which you are personally connected. It belongs to you in the same way that your finger prints are your unique possession.

Your handwriting is intimately connected to your psyche. As you grow from childhood to adulthood your handwriting grows with you. As you mature, your handwriting matures with you. And as you start to age, your handwriting starts to tremble and take on certain aspects of your aging personality.

Handwriting reveals much more and the Graphologist – the handwriting expert who is trained to read it is able to tell a lot more about you than any tester could possibly find out from a blot of ink. If this interests you, check out “The Hidden Meaning of Handwriting” and see if you don’t agree with me.

OK that is what I think – if you disagree – tell me about it!

How a woman’s amazing memory wowed the scientific world and set the media alight.

Jill Price had always wanted the story of her amazing memory kept a secret. And so it was. For 8 years scientists studied her at the University of California, Irvine but as agreed, they kept her secret closely guarded.

Then in 2006 she decided to “come out” and her story appeared in a newspaper.

When the story broke the scientific world and the media went wild.

She was interviewed by Oprah and was featured in many TV shows and interviews. When she was interviewed by Diane Sawyer on ABC News, she knew to the exact day when Princess Grace died: when Jr from Dallas was shot; when the Unibomber was arrested and when the L. A. Riots took place. And there was more.

When questioned about it she explained that hers was an autobiographical memory.

This means that she remembers things in relation to her own life. Her memory is based on her own personal history. So much so, that her recall of some event not linked in any way to her personal life is not spectacular. She admitted that she was not a brilliant student at school and that she even found it difficult to memorize a poem. Everything that she remembers so perfectly has to be related in some way to an incident in her own life.

Jill, who is about 45 now, spent most of her life in Los Angeles where she works as a school administrator. She lives with her parents because she is a collector of personal memorabilia that she can’t bear to part with.

She suffers from separation anxiety to the extent that a move away from her family home would be too much for her to bear.

A very Strange Handwriting

Jill has chronicled the highly detailed story of her life in a journal that contains 50 thousand pages of her very strange handwriting set up in columns like a newspaper.

I have reproduced an excerpt from one of these columns to show how closely her amazing memory is tied up with her personality and reflected in her handwriting.

Take a look at Jill’s unusual handwriting and see what you can make of it. You will see immediately how strange and crowded it is. Is this the handwriting of a genius or simply an oddity?

At the website you will find an explanation of her handwriting which will give you some insight into her personality.

And no it isn’t magic or anything esoteric. Take a look at the handwriting sample and then tell me if you aren’t amazed at what handwriting can tell you even at a first glance.

Here it is: The strange handwriting of The Woman with the Amazing Memory.

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

It is now well known that Elizabeth Fritzl wrote a diary during her captivity. In the depth of her despair she may have found a small measure of solace in creativity. No doubt this diary will attract a lot of interest in the media.

It has been said that she used it to write up important events in her life such as the births of her children as well as the death of her little son.

We don’t know if she included any of her personal feelings or not. She may have hidden the diary away terrified that her father would discover it. She was probably too frightened to write very much and we can only wonder if she wrote about her fears and sufferings with any detail. She was only 11 when she was already being abused by her father.

That’s why it’s so moving to see an actual sample of Elizabeth Fritzl’s handwriting when she was very young. It tells us so much.

There’s emotion in every letter and stroke on the page. The gentle, girlish handwriting is already fraught with tension and shows clear signs of fear and helplessness.

It’s very easy to see once the signs are explained:- here is Elizabeth Fritzl’s handwriting.

Elizabeth remained in hiding while Josef Fritzl went on trial. Interesting that he was an electrical engineer by profession. It just goes to show what little influence education can have on morality.

There are many instances in history that prove this – but the bottom line is that no amount of knowledge or education could equip him to deal decently with his family.

Sadly, his abused daughter is forever damaged and has had to take refuge in a psychiatric hospital together with the children he fathered.

Elisabeth Fritzl is now 42 and remains permanently, emotionally scarred. What damage her children suffered can only be guessed at. Here is her handwriting. See what you can make of it.

For further information go to Craft and Create Craft and Create

It’s a strange phenomenon but it’s perfectly true; when you study or learn handwriting analysis you’re bound to come face to face with yourself sooner or later. At some stage, you’ll find yourself confronting the bare facts of your own personality.

It’s like looking into one of those make-up mirrors where your face becomes enlarged and you can see every crease and every pore. It isn’t always a pretty sight.

It takes a little time but eventually you learn to come to terms with yourself and to accept yourself with all your flaws and blemishes.

Eventually, after a good deal of self-analysis, you get over that self-conscious stage and start focussing on other people. And that’s a lot easier! It’s much more fun to focus on someone else’s flaws and wrinkles!

But then reality takes over. You realize that we are all made up of the same building blocks; and that the only thing that differentiates us – is that the blocks are arranged in different patterns!

Working out the different permutations becomes unendingly fascinating.

This is the magical “Aha” moment and this is when you really get into it. There are even those who become quite obsessed with it. Regard this as fair warning!
